Falcon Field Area Alliance - E-Newsletter Fall 2007 Contents
![]() Recently Longbow Golf Club, located in the Falcon Field Business District, was honored by Golfweek Magazine as one of the top twenty "Best State by State Public Access Courses in Arizona." Longbow Business Park and Golf Club is a 330-acre mixed use commercial development which when fully developed will incorporate office, light industrial, and retail uses designed around the award-winning Longbow Golf Club. The award was based on ratings from Golfweek evaluators and panelists who recognize courses based on playability, shot values, hole variety and overall design characteristics. Located in the Falcon Field Business District, on East Longbow Parkway between Higley and Recker Roads, Longbow Golf Club underwent a dramatic renovation in 2003 which was led by Ken Kavanaugh, the original course designer. The renovation included a complete redesign of the golf course, expanded acreage, a new practice facility and an Arizona Contemporary-style clubhouse. Since then, the golf course has hit its stride as a venue for a variety of competitive events as well as for an ideal place for the average golfer. In the very capable hands of developer Daedalus Real Estate Advisors, LLC and OB Sports Golf Management, Longbow Golf Club is committed to a simple goal – presenting a facility of superior quality at an exceptional value which creates a first class business amenity for the Falcon Field Business District. Red Mountain Can Train Your Employees One of the greatest business assets in the Falcon Field Business District is the Red Mountain campus of Mesa Community College. Located on 100 acres near the intersection of Power and McKellips Roads, the Red Mountain campus offers our business community all the resources of Mesa Community College. Red Mountain is very interested in working with businesses to design workforce solutions. The college offers a full complement of training options. Training can be as short as a few hours or span several months depending on a business’ needs. If a business has a group of employees looking to obtain degrees or just to build college credits, Red Mountain can make it happen. The community college’s broad array of low-cost programs and their flexibility in providing instruction are their hallmark. For decades Mesa Community College has been the largest provider of occupational skills training in the community. They have a proven commitment of serving our community and our learners. Now that the Red Mountain campus is located in the Falcon Field Business District, we need to take advantage of its services to increase the skill levels of our employees. Businesses can learn about the workforce resources that Red Mountain offers by calling Jo Wilson at 480-654-7200 to learn how the college can work with businesses to select, customize and develop training to make your business more competitive. Simply put, Red Mountain can address the education needs of current and future workers in the Falcon Field Business District.
Another New Development Coming
The Falcon Field Business District is home to a very unique and wonderful children’s home, Sunshine Acres, which is a charitable organization dedicated to providing homes for children who are separated from their own parents for one reason or another. The Home cares for children ages 5 to 18, providing stability and loving care for children through their college years. Since its beginning in 1954, Sunshine Acres has cared for more than1,500 Valley children. Governed by a private board of directors, Sunshine Acres receives no government funding and must rely solely on the generosity of caring individuals and compassionate companies in the Valley who provide money and in-kind support. The Falcon Field business community has rallied by supporting an annual event, “Sunshine Days” which last year raised more than $65,000 in one day! Sunshine Days 2007 will take place Friday, November 16 at Longbow Golf Club. In addition to golf and social events the Sunshine Days festivities will include a silent and live auction as well as a raffle for a golf getaway package at the Ritz Carlton resort in Half Moon Bay, California. This event draws businesses from the entire East Valley. As our East Valley community grows, so does the need for additional support for children’s care. Sunshine Acres was founded in 1954 by Rev. Jim and Vera Dingman. Their goal was to create a loving, wholesome Christian home for children who are separated from their parents. Mrs. Dingman’s hope was to help each child become healthy, happy community citizens with a strong sense of spirituality and responsibility. Sunshine Acres is unlike any other program in the Valley and the Falcon Field business community is proud to continue its support. For more information on Sunshine Days, please call 480-610-0815.
